Why Are We Afraid?

Why Are We Afraid?

Causes of Fear

Being afraid of rejection is nothing new to humans. Everyone has experienced this fear at some point in their life, but why are we so afraid of it? There are many reasons as to why, which can vary from person to person. Some people even have a greater fear of rejection than others do, which are identified as disorders such as social anxiety.  More severe fears occur due to phobias or traumatic past experiences. However, fear is common in general, typically because they are afraid of being judged,  criticized and alone.

Rejection can range from situation from situation, such as being rejected from a job or from a person of affection. The thought of failure causes people to feel unloved and worthless. They feel as if they have less and less value. It gradually builds the more they get rejected until eventually they feel worthless. Human emotions are fragile and long to be needed and accepted by another.

Personal Fear

There are many different things to be afraid of. Everyone is afraid of something different. I am afraid of being judged. What I say, what I do, what I wear, they all cross my mind and I wonder: Is this normal? Does everyone do the same thing? I can't help but hope that I don't stand out from the rest of society. My fear of being judged ties in with the fear of being alone. As a result, my actions are based solely on my wish to be accepted.
